Every since the creation of .MP3’s people have been wanting to make digital backups of old LP’s, Cassettes, 8-tracks, ECT. It used to be a real chore to get this accomplished. First you had to figure out how to connect the stereo to the computer, and then you had to figure out how to rip it to the hard drive in a format that could be easily used. At that point if you wanted it on a CD, you would have to encode the data into a format your CD player can read.
Now it is a lot easier than it used to be. Radio Shack carries a couple of devices that will make the transition from analog to digital to CD. The first one I want to touch on is made by Xitel; it is called INport Deluxe part number 25-397. This device connects directly from the Aux. Out to the converter box then USB to your computer. My stereo didn’t have Aux. Out so I purchased an attenuating cable from Radio Shack part number 42-2547 from the headphone plug to the converter box to the computer and it worked just fine. The device is easily installed, and I mean EASY. Just plug the device into an open USB port and everything happens automatically. Drivers install like clockwork and the software begins installing right away. The software is easy to use and seems to work nicely.
Another option is The ION TTUSB05 USB Turntable and Vinyl Archiver Radio Shack part number 42-419. This is a turn table that plays your old vinyl and plugs directly to your pc via supplied USB cable. Nothing I’ve seen is easier then this to covert LP’s to digital tracks
